Catherine Theresa "Terry" Poore Kanzler

January 14, 2019

Catherine Theresa “Terry” Kanzler, 78 years old, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully early in the morning on January 14, 2019.  She passed in a care facility not far from her home in southeastern Charlotte that she lived in for almost 40 years.

She married the late Bill Kanzler in 1963, and they lived together for their first 10 years in Harrington Park, New Jersey before relocating to Charlotte.  Terry is survived by her five children, Steve Kanzler, Cindy Armstrong, Tim Kanzler, Chris Morris and Matt Kanzler; six grandchildren, Will Morris, Morgan Morris, Emma Kanzler, Ava Kanzler Sophie Kanzler and Zachary Kanzler.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1986, after 23 years of marriage.

Terry was loved by all that knew her.  She greeted co-workers, neighbors and family alike with a quick smile and friendly nature.

She adored her grandchildren and was with them for every holiday, performance, and milestone.  She was very proud of their accomplishments and her home was covered with their pictures.

Terry thoroughly enjoyed a good joke and a laugh.  That trait assuredly is what attracted her to, and ultimately led to her marriage to Bill.  Bill adored Terry and made her laugh with a myriad of jokes and impersonations.

Music was another source of joy for Terry.  As her memory failed her, it was apparent in her final days that a familiar musical tune would bring a smile to her face and an effort to sing along.

Terry was a devout Catholic and attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church for almost 45 years, up until her health was too poor to attend.  Father Frank O’Rourke performed last rites one day prior to Terry’s passing with many of her loved ones by her side.

A funeral mass will be held to honor Terry’s memory on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd in Charlotte.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  A private graveside service will be held at Belmont Abbey Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd., Ste. 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
