Angeline Lucas Andrews

Angeline Lucas Andrews, 93, passed away at her home on May 13, 2018.   She was born on July 28, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Vasiliki Lucas Pullman and James Lucas Stamatiou.  Angeline was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-aunt and Godmother.   She called Charlotte home for 71 years.   Angeline was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral serving in multiple roles, including president, of the “Agia Elpis” Ladies Philoptochos Society.   Through her leadership, guidance and perseverance, the award-winning cookbook, A Taste of Greek Tradition, became a reality.  In addition, she was an instrumental force in founding and organizing the annual Bake Sale that was held in February, which became the predecessor to the annual Yiasou Greek Festival.  In 1998, the Holy Trinity Cathedral community nominated Angeline to receive the Archangel Michael award.  She was the first recipient of this honor, bestowed by her church.  Angeline was also a member and past president of the Daughters of Penelope, Venus Chapter #2.   Her love, devotion and dedication to her family and church were the guiding principles that she exemplified throughout her life.  Her presence as a kind, gracious, genuine, and faithful woman were a shining example for all to follow.

Angeline was predeceased by her loving husband, Angelo G. Andrews and her sister, Zoe Lucas Cavalaris.  She is survived by her daughter Mary Alice Kays and her husband, Theodore G. Kays of Coral Gables, FL; son George P. Andrews and his wife, Linda Dennis of Chattanooga, TN; daughter Celeste Zoe Alexander and her husband, Stephen G. Alexander, of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Harry Cavalaris and James Cavalaris and his wife Joanna Trakas Cavalaris of Charlotte; Grandchildren, Ian Christopher Alexander, Zoe Irene Cavalaris, Thomas Constantine Cavalaris, Mary Angelia Frazier, Angelo Jacob Andrews and 6 great grandchildren and numerous loving  nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 15th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral from 5-7 pm followed by a Trisagion service at 7 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16th at 11 am with Rev. Fr. Vasileios Tsourlis and Fr. Theodore Ehmer officiating.   Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and love to Angeline’s devoted nephews and niece Jimmy, Joanna and Harry Cavalaris, her dedicated caregivers Betty Elliot, Susan Clemmons, Kari Craddock, and Kathy Sanchez and her outstanding doctors Josh Shoemake, Jane Harrell and their staff at H3 Healthcare, whom she dearly loved. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Trinity Ladies Philoptochos Society “Agia Elpis”, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC  28203.
