Laura May Marquard Ryan

Charlotte - Laura May Marquard Ryan, formerly of Glen Mills ,PA., passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on September 29, 2017 at the Southminster Health Center in Charlotte, NC. Born on August 19, 1921, in Newark, NJ, Laura was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Mary (Morgan Witter) Marquard. She was married on April 23, 1944, to Thomas Joseph Ryan and enjoyed 42 years of marriage until his death in 1987.

Laura enjoyed many roles in her church including teaching Junior Choir, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her real joy was singing in the choir where she was a frequent soloist. Laura enjoyed crafts, reading, knitting, and sewing. She bowled for over 50 years with her team, “The Bowling Ladies”. She was a friend to many and would be there to help when there was a need. Most of all, she was a loving and beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Laura is survived by her daughters Barbara Ryan Kenyon (Bruce) of Kiawah Island, SC and Charlotte, NC, and Laura Ryan Turton (Frederick – deceased) of West Chester, OH; grandchildren Erin (Kenyon) Sanders (Steven), Thomas Kenyon (Margaret), Robert Kenyon (Tracie), Kimberly Weissenberger Gerbosi (Scott), Geoffrey Weissenberger, Sarah Weissenberger Young (Guy); nine great grandchildren; and numerous cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Tree of Life (previously Princeton) Presbyterian Church, 933 Baltimore Pike, Springfield PA, on November 4th at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E 7th , Charlotte NC 28204; or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave. 5th floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.
