David Leo Miller,65, of Indian Land, SC died July 25, 2017, at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. A native of Charlotte, David was born March 28, 1952 son of the late Leo John Miller and Blanche Garner Miller and was raised in Burlington, NC.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from Elon University and his Master’s degree from NC A&T State University.David was a lifeguard and instructor with the YMCA and the American Red Cross. He also taught and coached at Wingate University before going into the banking profession. He retired from FedEx earlier this year.
David loved his country and served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves and United States Marine Corps Reserves and was still active in the South Carolina State Guard.
Surviving is his long-time companion, Debra “Timmy” Schrag of Indian Land, SC; his son, Matthew Miller and wife, Caroline of Mt. Holly, NC; his daughter, Taylor Miller of Charlotte, NC; cousin Kathy Pruitt of Wilmington, NC and many other extended family members.In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by his cousin, Kenny Brown.
Funeral service for Mr. Miller will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Pinkston officiating. Interment will be 3:30 PM Sunday, July 30, 2017, in Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington NC.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the American Red Cross 2425 Park Road Charlotte, NC 28203 or the American Cancer Society 1901 Brunswick Ave #100, Charlotte, NC 28207.

This came as a real surprise to me. i always thought highly of David and worked with him at FedEx from his start in the dispatch office. i would always see him early in the morning when i came in when he was planing his route for the day. i am sorry he did not get to enjoy his retirement. prayers to the family.
