Bruce Crawford Denton

Bruce Crawford Denton, 77, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice Center at Southminster in Charlotte, NC. He was born April 3, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Donald Hemphill and Isabel Crawford Denton Sr.

Bruce attended Charlotte College and Wingate College. He joined The United States Navy in 1961. He became a pilot, flying P2V’s in the North Atlantic Anti- Submarine Patrol. After serving his country, he joined American Airlines and flew as a Captain until retiring in 1995.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, deep sea fishing and working on his farm in Chester, SC. He also enjoyed being with so many of his good friends wherever he resided.

Bruce is survived by his brother, Donald Hemphill Denton, Jr and his wife, Delle of Charlotte, NC; his sister, Susanne Denton Pierce of Ocean Isle Beach, NC ; his niece, Darby Delle Denton; nephew, Donald H. Denton III and his wife, Diane, and their children, William and Alex, all of Charlotte; his niece, Julie P. Sandridge and husband William M. Sandridge, and their children Sally and Jane, of Raleigh, NC; and nephew, R. Craig Pierce and wife Laney H. Pierce and their children, Emmett and Eliza of Shallotte, NC

The family would like to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Dipika Misra and the staff at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte and Amy Styers Bissette and the staff at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster for the excellent care and compassion they showed to Bruce and his family.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210 or charity of your choice.
