Charlotte Adams Maddox, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by family.  She was 88 years old.  Charlotte was born in Rocky Mount, NC, April 26, 1928, to the late Emma Tanner Adams and Sumpter Hutchinson Adams.  Charlotte was married to Walter Erskine Maddox for 47 years prior to his death in 1995.  

Charlotte's natural beauty and talent won her the title of Miss Rocky Mount in 1946.  

Her outgoing and friendly nature led her to launch a Welcoming Business in Goldsboro, NC, and then later began the Emerald Isle Garden Club where she served as the Club's first President in 1986. She was very active in her church.  Charlotte had many friends throughout her life and in the several cities where she lived always enjoyed hosting friends and family in her home.  In her later years there was nothing she loved more than hosting her friends for "deck parties" to admire the sunsets at Emerald Isle. 

Charlotte is survived by her four children; Brenda Johnson and husband David of Oak Island, NC, Van Maddox and wife Melissa of San Antonio, TX, Steve Maddox and wife Anneliese of St. Simons Island, GA and Martha Fiser and husband Bob of Charlotte, NC.  Charlotte was affectionately known by her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as "Charlie."  

The family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region and the staff at Brookdale for their loving care. 

Memorials may be made to Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church, 100 Yaupon Dr, Cape Carteret, NC 28584 and the Emerald Isle Garden Club, 5400 Cedar Tree Ln, Emerald Isle, NC 28594. 

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NC.
