Grady Edwin Price

Grady Edwin Price, MD, 83, of Charlotte, NC died October 9, 2016 at his home. He was born in Charlotte on March 25, 1933, son of Elizabeth Ledwell and William Knox Price. Grady graduated from Central High School and Duke University. He also graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1960. Following an internship at Duke, he served in the US Navy for two years. Grady returned to Duke where he completed a Residency in General Surgery before moving back to Charlotte where he would continue work in General Surgery and Orthopedics at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. In 1969 Grady joined Dr. John Roper in his orthopedic practice where he would practice until 1990. In 1990 he joined Charlotte Orthopedic Clinic where he worked until he retired in 1995. 

While Grady was a student at Duke University he was a member and President of the ATO Fraternity, the Duke University Glee Club, and the Red Friars Honorary Society. During his career he was a member of the Southern Medical Association, the Southern Orthopedics Association, and was a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. In 1972 Grady initiated the free medical services to the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. 

Grady’s hobbies included music, growing roses, reading, photography, and playing golf. He was a long-time member of Myers Park Country Club and Myers Park United Methodist Church where he was an active member and past-president of the Wesley Sunday School Class, the Health Advisory Team, and a Habitat Team volunteer. He went on multiple mission trips to Puerto Rico and Mexico. Grady was also a former member of the Administrative Board of the Methodist Home. In retirement, Grady volunteered at the Charlotte Community Health Clinic. 

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by a brother, William Knox Price Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marie Thompson Price; three children, Grady Edwin (Eddie) Price Jr. and his wife, Sharon, Katherine Price Goodman and her husband, Jeff, and Louie Thompson (Tommy) Price and his wife, Holley; seven grandchildren, Grady Edwin (Tripp) Price, III and his wife, Patricia, William Ballard (Will) Price, Katherine Marie (Kate) Goodman, Hamrick Thompson Goodman and his wife, Stephanie, Allie Elizabeth Goodman, Louie Thompson (Bo) Price, and Sarah Frances Price; one great-grandson, Grady Edwin Price, IV; brother, Wayne Ledwell Price and his wife, Emily; two nephews, William Knox (Bill) Price, III and his wife, Dawn, and Wesley (Wes) Price and his wife, Liv; and a niece, Hollis Price. 

A service to celebrate the life of Grady Edwin Price will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Myers Park United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Jubilee Hall.

    I was lucky to have been one of Dr. Price's patients. He had a terrific bedside manner. Not only a patient, I always considered him a friend and was quite fond of him.
