Lillian Maffett Humphries passed away January 20, 2016, at the age of 97 after a life well-lived. Known for her elegance and vitality, she possessed an immense joy for life that made the world sunnier to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church with Dr. James Howell officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church.

Lillian was born November 9, 1918, daughter of Era Buice and Scrapp Maffett. She attended the city schools of Greenville, SC and graduated from Furman University. She was married to her loving and beloved husband, Eugene E. Humphries for 65 years and had one son, Eugene E. Humphries, Jr. She was predeceased by her husband in 2004, her son in 2005 and her sister, Helen Maffett Gibbs. Lillian lived a full and active life. She served on the board of the Florence Crittenden Home, The Mint Museum Auxiliary and the Charlotte Symphony. She also served on the altar committee of her church for many years. She was a member of Myers Park Country Club and was an accomplished bridge player. She was a nationally accredited flower show judge, an award winning flower arranger and a rosarian. She generously shared and arranged her roses for friends, neighbors, and her church. In her fifties she began to paint and her paintings are the pride and joy of family members and her many friends. Lillian's last years were enhanced by the devoted members of the Care Team of her church for which she was truly grateful.

Lillian is survived by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Humphrey and her husband, Mike of Marietta, GA; two great-grandchildren, Aja and Rhianna Humphrey; brother, Dan Haffett of Orlando, FL; and by two devoted nieces, Susan Mazzella of Greensboro, NC and Lillian Souers of Dallas, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.
