Dannie Page

January 21, 2016

Dannie Rogers Page of Charlotte passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016. Dannie was born on December 15, 1946. As the daughter of E.P. and Ilene Rogers in Marion County, she grew up on the family farm in Fork, South Carolina. In 1965, Dannie graduated from Lake View High School where she met James Page. She graduated from Winthrop University in 1969 with a Bachelors of Science in Home Economics. After working briefly as a teacher, Dannie married James on August 1, 1970, and they moved to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas. In 1973, they returned to South Carolina. As she supported James in his work as an engineer, Dannie worked in her garden and prepared her delicious recipes, which she shared with friends and neighbors.

Dannie and James's daughter, Audrey, was born in 1979. Dannie taught her daughter to value compassion, self-determin-ation, humor, and perseverance. After moving to Charlotte on "the hottest day in 1985," she volunteered countless hours in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and in community organizations to provide care and learning experiences for her daughter and other children. Dannie nurtured others and sought for them to feel confident and prepared. As such, she enjoyed her work as an educational consultant at College Guidance and Life Planning Services. After she retired, Dannie enjoyed caring for her family and friends and supported her husband and daughter as they worked in their chosen fields. Dannie was known for her infectious joy, her sparkling eyes, and her ready and kind sense of humor. Her capacity to make the mundane fun and her analytical ability allowed her students and her family to dream and achieve more than they initially considered possible. These gifts, along with her formidable determination and her decision to live with joy despite her illness, allowed Dannie to be successful in treatment for so long.

She is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Audrey Page and her husband David Cimba; and grandson, Luke David Cimba. Also, surviving are her mother, Ilene Rogers; siblings, Penn Rogers (Ree); Eleanor Page (Ben); Ebbie Rogers (Pat); and brother in-law, Allard Clinton Page, J.R. (Dianne). Dannie is also greatly missed by her niece, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, E.P. Rogers, and her aunts and uncles.

The family thanks the late Dr. H. Grant Taylor, Dr. James F. Boyd, and staff of Oncology Specialists of Charlotte and Dr. L. Scott McGinnis of Southeast Radiation Oncology for their compassionate medical care and genuine regard for her goals. In addition, the family thanks the faculty and staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for their care. Finally, the family thanks Dr. David Kwon, now of Henry Ford Health System, for his care and advocacy. The family greatly appreciates Chisa Barnes who lovingly provided care for Dannie in her illness. Also, Dannie's long-standing friends were a great source of strength and merriment in her determined journey to fully live after her diagnosis.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Myers Park Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends following the service. Dannie always sought to do unto others as she would want done for herself or her family and to meet the unspoken needs of others in joyful or sad times. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you cheerfully apply the Golden Rule to those you love and to those in need.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth Poe Funeral & Cremation Services, 1321 Berkeley Ave Charlotte NC 28204. Phone: 704 641-7606
