Michael Steve Taylor, 63, of Charlotte, NC died February 9, 2016, at his home. A native of Rutherford County, NC, Steve was a son of the late A.C. and Frances Taylor. He received an Associates Degree from Gaston College and, for the past 18 years, was Building Maintenance Superintendent for St. John's Baptist Church of Charlotte. Prior to joining the staff of St. John's, he worked for Duke Power Company as a Maintenance Mechanic for 19 years and for Hyatt Charlotte as an Engineering Supervisor for five years. Steve loved telling stories, enjoyed encouraging children and assisting those in need. He was consistently sincere and thorough in his work while being kind and thoughtful toward the people of St. John's, the maintenance professionals with whom he worked and people of the community in which he lived. He was especially helpful to his aging parents. Steve is survived by a son, Nicholas Taylor of Danville, Virginia; two brothers, A.C. Taylor of Milledgeville, GA and Larry Taylor of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Carolyn Porter of Charlotte, NC and Nancy Abel of High Point, NC; two nephews, John Taylor of Gray, GA and Tim Taylor of Milledgeville, GA and a niece, Desiree Kitchens of Gray, GA. A service to celebrate Steve's life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at St. John's Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis Foust and Rev. Martha Kearse co-officiating. We will serve a lunch to attendees consisting of some of Steve's favorite foods following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be marked, 'In Memory of Steve Taylor,' and sent to St. John's Baptist Church, Building and Grounds Memorial Fund, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
