Dorothy Mayse Williamson

Dorothy Mayse Williamson, age 84, of Charlotte, died peacefully Saturday, May 21, 2016. Dottie is a native of Spindale, NC, she was the eldest daughter of the late James Laxton Mayse and Lucinda Towery Mayse. Dottie is survived by her husband, Carl R. Williamson, and her two daughters, Anne Davis and her husband, Jimmy of Fort Mill, SC, and Beth Young of Pineville, NC; three grandchildren, Gray and Zachary Davis and Laurel Anne Young. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Miller of Forest City, NC. In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Dunn.

After graduating from R.S. Central High School in Spindale, Dottie received her nursing diploma from the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Charlotte, and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her career in Public Health as a School Nurse with the Mecklenburg County Health Department. She advanced throughout her 30-year tenure with the Mecklenburg County Health Department and retired as the Home Health Division Program Chief.

Dottie married Carl in 1964 and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage. She was a loving mother to her daughters and grandchildren and a dedicated wife. She supported Carl and his businesses including Oakhurst Food Mart which was a Charlotte landmark for many years. Dorothy was a long time and faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. She loved gardening and making arrangements with her own fresh cut flowers, was an avid reader sometimes reading a book a day, and she enjoyed sewing, celebrating birthdays, holidays, family vacations and music - especially Englebert Humperdinck concerts.

Her family would like to thank the excellent and loving care she received at Brighton Gardens of Charlotte, Wellmore of Tega Cay, Hospice and Palliative Care, and the special ongoing support from our Covenant Church family.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, May 25. 2016, 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. at Kenneth Poe Funeral Services. Funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Morrison Chapel of Covenant Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert W. Henderson officiating. Family will briefly receive friends at the church following the service. Interment will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Weddington, NC.
