Marjorie Sherrod Dumbell, 93, died peacefully at home on June 5, 2016. Born April 21, 1923 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Howard Murry and Algie Ware Dumbell.

To those who knew her best, Marj was a kindhearted soul who was devoted to her family and friends. Her generous spirit impacted many throughout her life. During the Vietnam War she volunteered to serve as the assistant administrator of a children's hospital in Saigon. Most of her working years were spent in the editorial and public relations departments of various newspapers and magazines. Her unique ability to create a witty note or conjure up a simple story will live on in the memories of those close to her. She loved Democrats, dogs and dark chocolate. She hated oatmeal. She was fiercely loyal to her "chillins" and forever grateful to her neighbors.

Friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 at Kenneth Poe Funeral and Cremation Services, 1321 Berkley Ave. in Charlotte. A private burial will be held at a later date in Black Mountain, NC.

Marj's family would like to thank all of her loving caregivers, especially Clarke Doty of Hospice and Palliative Care. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203.
